Setting Up Your Development Environment

The quickest way to get set up with a development environment for work at SMILE is using Varying Vagrant Vagrants (VVV). This is an open source Vagrant configuration focused on WordPress development.

To get set up, you’ll need command line access (Example: Terminal on OSX), and your favourite Text Editor or IDE (we recommend Atom by GitHub). If you’re not comfortable with using git on the command line on a day to day basis, you may want to grab a GUI-based Git client. GitHub Desktop is a good entry point for those new to Git.

Once you’re all set, simply follow the instructions for VVV over on GitHub, and then consider converting your WordPress installation to a Multisite instance. Most documentation from hereon in is based on that configuration.
